Chingay Parade 2012

Last night was our nation's very own annual Chingay Parade 2012. And I'm proud to say that I've got a chance to witness the whole celebrations live with a couple of friends. The whole atmosphere there was so much different compared to watching the delayed telecast on your TV.

Of course, the human traffic there was crazy. It was like the whole of Singapore gathered at a single place. Although the atmosphere was good, I must admit that improvements should be made to increase the number of signage to direct the human traffic.

As there were different sections for people with ticket (further seperated by colour codes) and without tickets, signs should be put up from all the nearby MRT stations, roads and traffic lights to direct traffic better. At the stands though, signs of the seat number at each stairs should be put up, so that the ushers would not be overwhelmed by the crowd. That would allow us to find our seats faster as compared to asking every usher as we made our way down.

However, applaud should be given for the help of the volunteers that were stationed there to direct the crowd. Even more applause must be given to the performers and the effects, lightings and preparation for such a huge events.

So without further ado, let me welcome the picture highlights (156 photos) for the event.

And for all smartphone users, here are 2 bonuses for you.

Bonus 1: Dynamic Youth Warrior
Bonus 2: Taekwondo Aerobic

For anyone who does not know what to do with the above weird looking pictures, or this is your first encounter with QR codes, just go to your application store and download a QR reader to scan the above codes and enjoy the bonus.

I shall end this post here brightly. Enjoy!

The End Is Near...

Hi readers! We are now nearing towards the last few days of 2011, and I hope that everyone had a great 2011. For people who didn't, well, fret not. You can have a choice to make 2012 a much better year for you.

So how are we going to make 2012 a much better year for ourselves? What's a better way than making a New Year's Resolution and make sure to stick to it all the year. Let's do some review.

What are your 2011 resolutions? It may be:
  • To lose weight
  • To spend more time with your family
  • To run your first marathon
  • To join more Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Heights RC events
Whatever your resolutions are, and whether or not you succeed, put it all down and let's look forward to a more positive 2012.

Although I personally missed out on some of my resolutions, I did managed to achieved 2 that I am proud of.

They are:
  1. My Class 3 driving licence
  2. Running a 14km race (Although I aimed for Standard Chartered 10km, but I guess it's better I managed to look a longer race)

Remember to Keep Going for the Goal
And here are my resolutions for 2012
  • Running in my first Half Marathon
  • Running in 4 Races throughout the year
  • Have more fellow residents taking part in our events
So residents, are you ready to embrace 2012 with a new beginning and a whole new start? I AM and I hope you so.

To help start you off with making a good resolution, I have provided some links for your reference.

I wish you a Very Happy New Year!

Overated 13th Month Bonus?

Recently, it seems that our Singaporean pay structure has come under scrutiny. The argument was that our 13th month bonus is not really a bonus, but really it is our pay that we had been shortchanged.

Let's take a look at the argument.

Hi everybody! Let's look back to last week, when the North East Run 2011 was taking place at Pasir Ris Park.
The event overall was a success, in my opinion. Although at the start it seems that there was not many people taking, over the course of the run, as each category was flagged off, I realized that the number of participants involved in total was not a small amount.

The water points was adequately placed, though I had hoped more first aid station was available. I had noticed only 2 first aid station, each close to the 2 u-turn points at the end of Pasir Ris Park. However, one setback would be that it was raining before the event started and caused certain sections to be wet, slippery and muddy, yet that did not make the event a torture to run.

On a personal note, coming in at 1 hour 40 min, 10 minutes off my target time despite the recurrence of my leg injury, it makes my timing seems not too bad. Hope to have more of the chance to run more events, and calling out to all runners, let's aim to form our own BRP Heights Running group, and reach out to other aspiring runners.

Before ending off, kudos to North East CDC for organizing the North East Run 2011, and many more over the years.

PS. Pictures were not taken, due to a technical problem from the camera. But I have my result here.

Time is Racing

Next week, exactly 7 days from now, on 20 November 2011, I will be at Pasir Ris to participate in the North East Run Singapore 2011, organized by North East CDC.

Together with my brother, we are looking at completing the 14km run. Although this is my brother's first time in a long distance event run, and only my second (my first is in the Standard Chartered Marathon 2010, 10km), we are looking at finishing it in under 90 minutes.

Although this is not a very long distance run, this will be a platform to test myself and gauge if I should take part in the Standard Chartered half marathon category in 2012.

Well, nothing much to update for this post, except on the  North East Run Singapore 2011 organized by North East CDC. Hopefully when they organized it next year again, there will be more participants from the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Heights area, and we can probably have our own training together.

Signing off! Look our for pictures of the event next week...
